The Benjis brought two teams to HRC in Wassenaar, where they won three games and lost one.

In the first game, BSN1 took on the home team. After conceding an earlier try with one loose pass, BSN increased the pressure on HRC and played some great attacking rugby in the first half, passing freely from one side to the other and moving forward at pace. They were 7-1 up at half time and added another six tries in the second half without reply. The result was not about the score, but the performance, which included some of the best rugby of the season. One particular highlight of their play was how they quickly realigned from the ruck, moving the ball wide to break for a try.

On the other pitch, BSN2 took on Rotterdam, winning 3-7, before facing HRC in their second match. The Benjis toiled in the first half and were 1-5 down at the break. The home side were having the best of the rucks and the mauls, but BSN regrouped in the second half and with better pressure, passing and rucking, they scored four tries to HRC’s two. Overall, a narrow loss, but with a bit more intensity in the first half, it was a game that BSN2 could have won.

BSN1 played Rotterdam and were 7-0 half time, with more of the same in the second half.

The day ended with a friendly game between the BSN boys. The referee was surplus to requirements and the timekeeper wandered off as the game became a little bit of a pantomime, with shouts from the coaches of “no try” and “send him off”. All good fun.
