Two Benjis teams went to Gouda to play against the home sides, DIOK and HRC. After a warm week, the temperature had dropped, there was water on the pitch and threatening black clouds scudded overhead. BSN had mixed results, losing and drawing to DIOK, but beating HRC and Gouda.
In the first match T-Rex took on DIOK. One-each at half time, BSN had been running into contact rather than making use of the wings. DIOK scored first and Louis equalised. After the break, Lachlan broke the lines and played in Cammy. Louis added a third with a break on the opposite wing, but DIOK came back to level the match 3-3. There was late drama, with Joaquin nearly making it to the line, before being dumped into touch, and T-Rex had to settle for the draw.
The Tigers started against HRC. Duncan scored two tries in the first half to give BSN a 2-1 lead, but their play was lacking intensity in the ruck and they were standing off tackles. In the second half, Daniel nearly charged down the ball behind HRC’s try line, but by the smallest margin HRC got the ball away and ran the length of the pitch to level the scores. BSN were still standing off and HRC’s big fast player took advantage, running the length of the pitch to take the lead. Duncan levelled the scores with a third try and BSN started moving the ball and making the tackles, with Jamal and Moritz making the lion’s share. BSN pressure led to a penalty for a high tackle, from which Alexander put Rory in to score. Jamal made a great covering tackle on HRC’s star player to save a try. Duncan snaffled possession and Alexander was in to score into the corner. The game ended with a Rory pass to play in Luc and BSN ended on top, winning 7-3.
T-Rex and the Tigers took on the two Gouda sides in simultaneous matches, winning both. T-Rex won 5-2 with tries from Lachlan, Joaquin, and Louis. Cammy played a key role, making at least one try-saving covering tackle, as well as a reverse pass that put Louis though.
In the other game, the Tigers won 7-2 before heading straight into their third match without a break. This one was against DIOK and after Daniel scored down the line, the game went away from BSN, who were losing ball in the rucks and missing tackles. 3-1 down at half time, the match ended 5-1 to DIOK.
After some recovery time and a bit of food, the Tigers played one last game against Gouda B. The rest and energy did BSN good and they won the match handsomely, 6-0 at half time, with more tries added after the break.
