The BSN Minis closed out the year with three fine wins at DIOK on Saturday.  With the floodlights on to fight the gloom, BSN played DIOK, HRC2 and Rotterdam, winning 5-0, 4-2 and 6-0.  The play by the forwards was the highlight, with dominant scrummaging throughout and one of the forwards, David, took home the player of the match award.

In the first game, DIOK were under pressure near their try line. A run by Duncan was followed up by Jean. Although DIOK turned over possession, they kicked the ball straight to Louis on the wing, who ran in for the try.

Jean was again in support; this time for a run by Louis. The ball came back to David, who drove over from close range.

The third and final try of the first half was scored by Daniel J from a pass by Alexander on a well-worked overlap.

BSN had controlled the game with the forwards dominating the scrum. And it was from the scrum that BSN scored at the start go the second half. The ball passed out to Alexander to dance through for the try.

There was time for one more score, with a run by Duncan at full back, setting up Joseph for the try.

In the second game against HRC, Andrea and David did the honourable thing and played for the opposition, who were a couple of players short.  It was a well-contested match.

Early in the game, BSN pressure on HRC forced them out over their dead-ball line.  From the scrum, Cammy ran on the nearside before offloading to Louis who dived into the corner.

At this point, BSN went to sleep and HRC scored two quick tries; the second from a suspiciously offside position.  A lesson to the Minis to play to the whistle.

Aiden pulled the scores level with a run into the corner and it was two-all, when the referee blew for half time.

BSN were under pressure from the restart, but a kick by Daniel J to relieve pressure took  a lucky bounce and was collected by Louis for an easy score.

After that BSN were on top, driving HRC back in the scrum and turning over possession.  Cammy channelled his inner Hugo and put a HRC winger into touch with a fine covering tackle.

There was time for BSN to add a fourth with a flowing passing move down the line to Atlanta on the right wing, before switching back to Alexander who scored on the left.

The final game with Rotterdam was the unofficial final.  BSN had a fifty minutes break inbetween games, but any fear that they had gone to sleep was misplaced.  Their intensity was too much for Rotterdam.

A snaky run by Louis brought up the first try.

Fine low tackling by Cammy and Louis put Rotterdam under pressure and gave BSN the put in at the scrum, which was put to good use with Josh setting up Louis in the corner.

From the restart, Duncan picked up the ball and ran at Rotterdam before passing to Cammy on the wing.  For a moment, it looked like Cammy had held on to the ball too long, but his offload gave Daniel H the space to score.

In the second half, Louis added his third with a jinking run.  A tip tackle by Jamie gave possession to Cammy, who ran and offloaded to Aiden.  Then, Aiden added his second and BSN’s sixth in a fine final win of 2016.
