Breda edged the BSN-Voorburg Cubs 24-22 in a tight opening game of the season. BSN gifted a couple of tries in the first half to trail 19-10 at the interval after leading early in the match, before working hard in the second half to narrow the gap. But, it wasn’t quite enough and Breda held on for the win.

BSN started well, creating pressure with a run from Lachlan on the wing and Cammy sacking the opposing fullback in the twenty two, until a Breda interception led to a run away try.

Breda were back under pressure from the restart and BSN quickly levelled, with Lachlan offloading to Atlanta, who scored in the corner.

BSN continued to have the upper hand and quick hands from Alexander and Cammy, played Louis in to score in the left corner.

Lachlan and Atlanta were combining well on the right wing, but as the ball came left, a diagonal kick found the Breda number eight rather than a BSN winger, and he showed his pace to run the length of the pitch and score under the posts.

Breda converted to take the lead and then extended their lead to 19-10 with a converted try, after BSN were put under pressure from a high penalty kick.

The home side took the lead into half time, but BSN cam out strongly and dominated the first ten minutes of the second half, scoring two tries. The first came from a reverse pass from William feeding Cammy and then Duncan, who played Atlanta into the corner.

The second followed a period of BSN possession forcing Breda back. A Breda player lost the ball in a tackle from William, and Louis collected the ball five yards out, to score and then make the conversion to give BSN a 22-19 lead.

But, BSN could not hold on to the lead and Breda came back at the restart, winning a scrum near the BSN goal line for a knock-on, which they scored on the blindside.

There followed a tight closing ten minutes. Both sides were evenly matched in the ruck and the scrum. Tiredness was creeping in and Breda managed to see out the match for a home win, and a BSN loss in the first match of the season.
