Tough rucking in Breda

The BSN-Te Werve Cubs edged a close away encounter with Breda, scoring one try in each half for a 10-5 win.

Breda had the best of the first half, showing more intensity in the rucks. After ten minutes, a line on the left went across to the wing right, where the BSN winger, Duncan was isolated by two Breda players. A solid cover tackle by William stopped the initial danger. Breda recycled the ball back left, where Louis and then Adam broke down the play until Lachlan bundled the Breda player into touch.

BSN remained under pressure, yielding territory and possession to Breda. On 17 minutes, Breda found a way through, despite a good last ditch tackle by William.

Conceding a try fired up BSN, and in the last five minutes of the half they showed more intensity. With the last play of the half, Breda conceded a penalty on the half way line for coming in at the side in the ruck. A drive by Lachlan was recycled back to Eddie, who got away on the wing. Adam was unlucky with the conversion, with the ball smacking the post full on and bouncing out.

Five all at half time, Breda were winning the rucks and BSN were not showing enough aggression, but they picked it up in the second half.

Both sides were covering each other, but BSN had the territory, with Breda trying to pass out of their own half, but not making much gain.

With only a few minutes to go, a BSN drive was held up on the line. From the five metre scrum, Eddie stretched over to score on the left wing.

Breda had only a couple of minutes to find a score. They pressured BSN deep in their own half, but good tackling and defence led to a BSN penalty, when Breda held onto the ball after a tackle. The game was up and the BSN-Te Werve cubs claimed a 10-5 win.
