New Recruits

The normal yearly disruption to the players schedule doesn’t come in the form of weather phenomenon’s in Holland but the annual iPad roll-out program at the British School, which meant the Minis were missing around 9 players for today’s fixture at Sparta. Still, it was a blessing in disguise, as it grave the coaches an excellent opportunity to field a development squad with some of our newly recruited players.

The Minis first game was against the hosts; Sparta. The Minis immediately got their passing game going, quickly moving the ball around for Louis to score. Sparta were lackluster at the ruck, probably due to the warm weather or whatever the excuse, they didn’t fancy it, resulting in some easy turnovers for the Minis with new player Daniel being particularly quick to the breakdowns. Jamal and Alexander benefitted from some good passing to score, and they were 4-0 at the break.

It was much the same story in the second half, with the Minis moving the ball well. Henry pick up a loose ball to run in a try from 15 yards out, which must have inspired new player Atlanta, as she side-stepped her way throw the middle of Sparta defense from the same distance a few minutes later. On the wings, Louis and new player Jean Karol scored for a comfortable 8-0 victory.

The Minis next opponents; HRC were sure to give the Minis far stiffer opposition and so it proved. HRC immediately put the Minis under pressure, scoring straight from the start, after failing to tackle the first receiver. After the introduction of a few substitutes after Daniel had taken a knock, the Minis started to lose their shape and passing game, HRC more aggressive play at the rucks helping them secure a 2-0 half time lead. The Minis defended better in the second half, new player Daniel helping to win numerous mauls with his aggressive play but HRC had most of the ball, who saw out the game 3-0. Altogether, a great learning performance against a experienced team.
