As Turvens entered the second half of the season, the coaching team has decided to try a new approach. The coaches have started splitting between 1st year and 2nd year players. So the 2nd year players will gradually get ready for moving up to Benjis in September and start learning and playing with some more skills; the first year players will have more ball time and gain more experience. Hence, during the three Saturdays in February, one team only had players who were born in 2015 and 2016. The little ones are growing very fast, we look forward to seeing what they can do in the future!

Shortly after Storm Eunice left the Netherlands, our brave Warriors were back on the muddy field. 15 Turvens formed two teams and played against VRC, HRC, and Hermes at Hermes-DVS.

Team I

Coach Andy: “A blustery February morning saw Warriors A face three teams: two from HRC and one from VRC. All three teams were strong. The first game saw a last minute victory for VRC, the second saw HRC pull away on the last few minutes. The final game saw HRC 5-0 up after the first half. The second half was a different story. 2 Warriors tries were met with just 2 from HRC. The concentration and effort improved from the Warriors.”

Andy continues: “Errors and poor passing resulted in the downfall of the Warriors. Too many balls lost in the pass or spilled in the tackle. Plenty to work on at our next training session. There was lots of reliance – too much – on our second years, with both Ted and Ed working hard across all three games. Highlights saw some excellent running from Marco, Luke’s first try, a few double tags, and improving play from Benedict, Bruce, Sisi and Zhanhe. Once we’ve figured out the passing, this particular group of players will become a formidable side. All in all, a tough week, but with plenty of lessons learned and plenty of lessons planned.”

Team II

Coach Gez: “Warriors B played very well today. The entire team focused on the basics today and demonstrated some excellent rugby. The team passed the ball well and supported the player with the ball at all times. Douglas had some excellent runs and Juris showed the opposition a clean pair of heels regularly. Marcel scored several tries and Jacques used the ball well in both passing and scoring tries. The second game saw the team improve and Lucas showed his team mates how to get several tags and challenge the opposition. Harrison grabbed several tags and was unlucky to get tagged after a good run. All players improved on the first game and helped each other out. The third game saw Jackson play his best game yet. Man of the match in the 3rd game as his runs dazzled the opposition.”

Well done to Warriors B today. They all worked really hard for each other and ensured the basics were done correctly.

On this sunny but freezing Saturday morning, Turvens Warriors welcomed teams from Bassets, Diok, and HRC. This was our second home game this year. We had 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. Afterward, our players, coaches and dear parents enjoyed a delicious BBQ in the sun.

Happy Turvens enjoyed playing matches at Hoek van Holland against HRC, VRC, and Hookers. Our Benjis were also playing in the same location for the first time. Many families with Warriors in both Turvens and Benjis were excited to be able to enjoy some great matches.

Coach Bertrand from Team 1 summarized: “Today was a memorise day! Weather was perfect. Location was perfect. Last but not least the kids were perfect. The game level they played was amazing and they logically won their 3 matches against strong opponents : HRCx2 and Hookers. They played the with a team spirit we love to see with a constant support and many good passes in attack. In defence they show a high engagement with many many tags. For the last words a special thumb up to two 1st years that played very well: Georgia (she is so fast!) and Edward-Philip (great finisher).”

Due to different half term break schedules from multiple international schools and Dutch schools, our Warriors will take an almost 3 weeks break from rugby. They will come back well rested in spring!
