BSN started well in the last of their home games this season. They were leading 12-5, against T’Gooi, midway through the first half, but the away team came strongly into the game, dominating in the ruck, and led at half time 12-22. The Cubs picked themselves up and had the better of the second half. In a tight game, both sides were conceding penalties and tries. BSN closed the score to 33-34, but could not get the crucial score at the end, and T’Gooi took the honours by the narrowest of margins.

The BSN Cubs knew that T’Gooi liked to start hard, but stopping them was a different matter. From the start, T’Gooi were making ground, turning the ball over in rucks, and they quickly pressed their advantage to score into corner after three minutes. No conversion 0-5.

But, BSN were not cowed and they came straight back. From the restart, Cammy kicked deep into the opposition half. T’Gooi were immediately under pressure and they carried the ball into their in-goal area and touched down. From BSN’s put in at the five metre scrum, Lachlan was held up on the line, but got the ball out and Jacob managed to get over the try line to score. William converted to take BSN into the lead at 7-5.

BSN were varying the play. Louis and Daniel kicked high, taking advantage of the wind at their backs. From the second kick, the T’Gooi full back misjudged the bounce in their try zone giving an easy score for Daniel. No conversion 12-5

The home side were applying pressure, but a simple break from T’Gooi on the right wing led to their second try, as their quick player out sprinted BSN’s covering players and scored in the corner to bring the score back to 12-10.

The try gave T’Gooi heart. From a BSN free kick in the opposition half, T’Gooi stole the ball. BSN started missing tackles and an easy run in and score for T’Gooi under the posts for a 12-17 lead.

T’Gooi were on top, winning the ball, even when BSN were first to the break down. BSN needed to go in lower to secure the ruck. T’Gooi were making ground and scored into the corner to lead at half time 12-22.

From the restart, BSN collected the ball. Good running took the ball into the opposition half. T’Gooi were defending desperately and conceding penalties. From one, BSN set themselves up. It looked like Jacob would attack under the posts, but this sucked in the T’Gooi defence, and BSN switched the ball left for Lachlan to score. William converted to narrow the score to 19-22.

The home side had started strongly, but from BSN’s scrum on the half way line, T’Gooi won the ball and passed left. Missed tackles from BSN let the T’Gooi runner in to score and with the conversion they stretched the score to 19-29.

BSN were unlucky with their next attack. Cammy was held up, when he looked like he would score. From the scrum, BSN conceded a penalty and were then penalised again. T’Gooi kicked to take the play up to the half way line. It had all gone scrappy and T’Gooi conceded a penalty from their own line out. BSN were making ground with runs from Jacob, William and Lachlan. The ball went right and this time Cammy was not denied. William converted to tighten the game to 26-29.

BSN then conceded a penalty for hands in ruck. T’Gooi saw the opportunity and took the penalty quickly with the BSN defence offside and unable to stop the try into the corner. T’Gooi were now two scores ahead at 26-34.

It wasn’t finished and BSN came back again. T’Gooi conceded a penalty for offside inside their five metre line. BSN set up Jacob who went over and William converted to take the scores to 33-34.

And there was still time for a last attack. From a knock on by T’Gooi in BSN half; good attacking and offloads by Lachlan and Hidde ended when Louis kicked the ball. T’Gooi collected the ball from their line out and BSN were out of time. T’Gooi took the ball into touch to end the game as winners by a single point.
